About Me
I was born in the beautiful country of Sri Lanka and spent a large portion of my childhood in the Philippines. Before becoming a parent I received my B.A. and teaching credential in English and taught all four grades at a local high school, ranging from basic English classes to specialized literature courses. I was highly influenced by the book For the Children’s Sake by Susan Schaeffer Macaulay and the philosophies of Charlotte Mason. I educated my children at home from the beginning (my daughter jokes that it was from birth) through high school graduation.
I have taught a variety of classes through local homeschool co-ops, including personal finance and staging an adaptation of a Shakespeare play. I have also tutored students individually in their writing. I'm passionate about helping students develop their critical thinking and writing skills.

American Literature
Held at Excellence in Education in Monrovia, CA on Tuesdays, 12:15-1:30 pm
starts September 9, 2025
American literature has changed over the years as the ideals, worldviews and politics of this nation have changed. This one-year course will give an overview of American literature, poetry and essays from the beginnings of this country and into the modern era.
Along with our readings, we will study the social and historical contexts of these works so that we can better understand the triumphs and struggles that people
in this nation have experienced over the years. We will also examine the literary and rhetorical techniques the authors used in their works. The writing assignments given will be based on the literature and will be varied in form, including both essay and creative writing.
Cost: $325 per semester, plus a one-time $20 registration fee (one year course)
discount available for those who self-pay
